Pass It Around

I am quite fine
admitting fear
of ninety-nine
bottles of beer
A sing-along
long-tripping song
that children trill

  1. I suppose sometime, somewhere, someone got to the end of that song, but I wasn’t there when it happened. The only other two counting songs I recall from my youth are This Old Man and The Ants Go Marching.

This old man, he played one,
    He played knick-knack on my thumb;
    Knick-knack paddywhack,
    Give a dog a bone,
This old man came rolling home.

The ants go marching one by one, hurrah, hurrah
The ants go marching one by one, hurrah, hurrah
The ants go marching one by one,
The little one stops to suck his thumb
And they all go marching down to the ground
To get out of the rain, BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

However, I think these songs only went to a count of 10. Given that both of these songs seem to think “one” and “thumb” rhyme, it’s a wonder I can write poetry at all.

    1. 🙂 I don’t remember ever hearing it end, either. But the older I got, the earlier I tried to stop it.

I remember the Old Man and Ants counting songs. I will admit I’ve used near rhymes to get me through some poems, so I won’t complain about one and thumb. 🙂

I also remember counting songs about Monkeys on a Bed and Angels on Kite Strings. They both only went to three, though. I’m sure there are more.

      Thanks.
